Safety

We appreciate our employees, our clients and our community. Keeping them safe will always be our number one priority.

We Pride Ourselves on Safety

Our Commitment to You

The safety and health of our workforce is Colaska’s top priority. As such, we are committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for employees, project participants and the general public.

Colaska consciously strives for each employee to gain personal satisfaction from their job. The prevention of work-related injury or illness is essential for us to make that happen. That is why we intentionally integrate safety into daily assignments. Health, safety and environmental wellness will never be compromised to meet production goals.

Keeping Each Other Safe

Colaska maintains a dynamic safety program directed towards employee safety and health awareness. All employees, regardless of rank, have clearly defined responsibilities for the safety and health of their co-workers and all persons under their supervision. By accepting mutual responsibility to operate safely, each employee contributes to the well-being of each other, the company and our clients.

Our Goal Zero safety program is designed to encourage responsible engagement of every employee.

Training

This is done through training exercises such as Safety Culture Excellence Workshops (SCEWs), Speak Up Listen Up (SULU), Rapid Improvement Workshops (RIWs and Continuous Improvement (CI) teams.

Colaska’s dedicated safety team conducts frequent job site visits for inspection, consultation and resolution of safety issues. They address employee concerns, prepare technical reports and implement corrective measures, programs and or procedures. When necessary, they coordinate training, participate in accident investigation and maintain record-keeping systems. Our safety team assures Colaska employees that they will always have access to the most current safety and health information.

Safety Guidelines

Colaska meets or exceeds industry standards, best management practices and regulatory requirements through engaged leadership and accountability. Our written safety program embraces Alaska Occupational Safety & Health (AKOSH), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT&PF) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations in the performance of daily operations. This assures the highest standards of safety for all operational activities.

Through third party administrator Applicant Insight, Colaska meets and or exceeds the requirements of Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 40 and 382 and Alaska Statutes 23.10.600 through 23.10.699 for drug and alcohol testing. Every employee is subject to pre-hire, random, reasonable cause/suspicion and post- accident substance abuse testing.

Several electronic programs including HCSS Safety and Cority, are used to document and track training status, qualifications, certifications and licensing.  This ensures employee competency at all times in accomplishing assigned responsibilities.
